Le pr\u00e9sident b\u00e9ninois Patrice Talon a remerci\u00e9 les chefs militaires pour leur contribution \u00e0 la d\u00e9faite d’une tentative de coup d’\u00c9tat militaire dans ce pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest. Il a \u00e9galement promis que les mutins seraient punis.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Dimanche matin, un groupe de soldats se faisant appeler le Comit\u00e9 militaire pour la refondation a pris le contr\u00f4le de la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision d’\u00c9tat et a annonc\u00e9 la dissolution du gouvernement.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quelques heures plus tard, le ministre de l’Int\u00e9rieur a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que la tentative de prise de contr\u00f4le avait \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00ab d\u00e9jou\u00e9e \u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n

Talon s’est adress\u00e9 \u00e0 la nation dimanche soir :<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Je tiens \u00e0 saluer le sens du devoir de notre arm\u00e9e et de ses chefs, rest\u00e9s r\u00e9publicains et loyaux envers la nation. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 eux, nous avons tenu bon, repris nos positions et \u00e9limin\u00e9 les derniers foyers de r\u00e9sistance des mutants. Cet engagement et cette mobilisation nous ont permis de contrecarrer ces aventuriers et de sauver notre pays. Cette trahison ne restera pas impunie. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Talon a \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 ses condol\u00e9ances aux victimes de \u00ab cette aventure insens\u00e9e \u00bb. Il a \u00e9voqu\u00e9 \u00ab ceux qui sont encore d\u00e9tenus par les mutins en fuite \u00bb et a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que tout serait mis en \u0153uvre pour les retrouver \u00ab sains et saufs \u00bb. Il n’a fourni aucun chiffre concernant les victimes ou les otages.<\/span><\/p>\n

Treize soldats ont \u00e9t\u00e9 arr\u00eat\u00e9s, selon les m\u00e9dias locaux, mais on ignore si le chef du coup d’\u00c9tat, le lieutenant-colonel Pascal Tigri, en faisait partie.<\/span><\/p>\n

Des coups de feu ont \u00e9t\u00e9 entendus et des soldats ont \u00e9t\u00e9 aper\u00e7us en patrouille dans certains quartiers de la capitale, Cotonou, mais la ville est rest\u00e9e relativement calme depuis l’annonce de la tentative de coup d’\u00c9tat.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le signal de la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision d’\u00c9tat et de la radio publique, qui avait \u00e9t\u00e9 coup\u00e9, a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9tabli par la suite.<\/span><\/p>\n

S\u00e9rie de prises de pouvoir militaires<\/span><\/h3>\n

Cette tentative de coup d’\u00c9tat est la derni\u00e8re d’une s\u00e9rie de prises de pouvoir et de tentatives de coups d’\u00c9tat militaires qui ont secou\u00e9 l’Afrique de l’Ouest. Le mois dernier, un coup d’\u00c9tat militaire en Guin\u00e9e-Bissau a destitu\u00e9 l’ancien pr\u00e9sident Umaro Embalo \u00e0 la suite d’une \u00e9lection contest\u00e9e au cours de laquelle lui et le candidat de l’opposition se sont tous deux proclam\u00e9s vainqueurs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le bloc r\u00e9gional, la Communaut\u00e9 \u00e9conomique des \u00c9tats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO), a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 avoir ordonn\u00e9 le d\u00e9ploiement de troupes du Nigeria, de la Sierra Leone, de la C\u00f4te d’Ivoire et du Ghana pour soutenir l’arm\u00e9e du B\u00e9nin afin de \u00ab pr\u00e9server l’ordre constitutionnel et l’int\u00e9grit\u00e9 territoriale de la R\u00e9publique du B\u00e9nin \u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n

La CEDEAO avait auparavant qualifi\u00e9 la tentative de coup d’\u00c9tat de \u00ab subversion de la volont\u00e9 du peuple b\u00e9ninois \u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le pr\u00e9sident nig\u00e9rian Bola Tinubu a salu\u00e9 l’implication des forces arm\u00e9es nig\u00e9rianes dans le r\u00e9tablissement du gouvernement au B\u00e9nin. Dans un communiqu\u00e9, le porte-parole du gouvernement nig\u00e9rian, Bayo Onanuga, a indiqu\u00e9 que le gouvernement b\u00e9ninois avait formul\u00e9 deux demandes distinctes, l’une pour des forces a\u00e9riennes et l’autre pour des forces terrestres.<\/span><\/p>\n
