Certaines jeunes filles afro-am\u00e9ricaines, ont d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de monter au cr\u00e9neau pour revendiquer leur identit\u00e9 culturelle. A St Petersburg en Floride, ces jeunes pour la plus part lyc\u00e9ennes ou coll\u00e9giennes, refusent \u00ab\u00a0d\u2019\u00f4ter les foulards africains\u00a0\u00bb malgr\u00e9 les pressions, elles ont lanc\u00e9 un mouvement et arborent tous les mercredis cette coiffe, symbole pour elles de leur identit\u00e9 afro.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Au lyc\u00e9e Gibbs, \u00e0 Saint Petersburg en Floride, les r\u00e8gles en mati\u00e8re de couvre-chef sont tr\u00e8s strictes : il est formellement interdit de porter casquette, foulard ou bandana, sauf pour raison religieuse. Sur la base de ce r\u00e8glement, le 25 ao\u00fbt dernier, un surveillant aurait demand\u00e9 \u00e0 des jeunes filles d\u2019enlever leurs foulards, nou\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019africaine. Ce geste a fait na\u00eetre un mouvement baptis\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Black girls wrap Wednesday<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb (\u00ab\u00a0Les filles noires se couvrent le mercredi<\/strong>\u00ab\u00a0).<\/p>\n

La leader du mouvement est Liu Montsho Kwayer \u00e2g\u00e9e de 17 ans et \u00e9tudie au lyc\u00e9e Gibbs.<\/p>\n

Pour ces filles, ce foulard, est bien plus qu’un accessoire. Les femmes noires et africaines les portent depuis longtemps. \u00a0\u00bbCela fait partie int\u00e9grante de notre culture et de notre h\u00e9ritage\u00a0\u00bb. Il s’agit pour elles d’embrasser cet h\u00e9ritage.<\/p>\n

Quand nous avons \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0vol\u00e9s\u00a0\u00bb sur le continent africain [en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence aux traites n\u00e9gri\u00e8res des XVIIe et XVIIIe si\u00e8cles, NDLR], nos anc\u00eatres ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9poss\u00e9d\u00e9s de leur culture, leur nom, leur langue. Pour moi, ceux qui disent que nous ne pouvons pas porter ces foulards nous renvoient \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque de r\u00e9pression\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Lorsque l\u2019interdiction a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9mise, j\u2019\u00e9tais d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9e. Particuli\u00e8rement parce que c\u2019est un policier qui a demand\u00e9 \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re victime d\u2019enlever son foulard. C\u2019\u00e9tait une situation tr\u00e8s humiliante. Voir qu\u2019un policier peut intervenir sur ce sujet dans l\u2019enceinte d\u2019un lyc\u00e9e, c\u2019\u00e9tait effrayant.<\/p>\n

Le Uhuru, un mouvement panafricain socialiste radical international centr\u00e9 sur la question des conditions sociales et \u00e9conomiques des populations africaines \u00e0 travers le monde a organis\u00e9 une manifestation le 31 ao\u00fbt pour faire la promotion de la culture Afro. A la suite de cet \u00e9v\u00e9nement, \u00a0six filles ont \u00e9t\u00e9 convoqu\u00e9es par le bureau de la vie scolaire et ont \u00e9galement appel\u00e9 leurs parents<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s les premi\u00e8res manifestations, la directrice Reuben Hepburn a donn\u00e9 l’autorisation du port du foulard africain \u00e0 condition que la permission soit accord\u00e9e par leurs parents. Mais cette d\u00e9cision n\u2019\u00e9tait pas suffisante pour les leaders du mouvement Uhuru qui ont tenu \u00e0 rencontrer la directrice de l’\u00e9tablissement pour demander plus de droits pour les jeunes filles.<\/p>\n

Contact\u00e9e par France 24, Lisa Wolf, charg\u00e9e de communication du district, affirme que l\u2019incident est pour eux clos. Ils pr\u00e9cisent : \u00ab\u00a0Notre r\u00e8glement concernant l\u2019interdiction de se couvrir la t\u00eate visait notamment les bandanas et les bandeaux, car certains gangs de la zone utilisent ces objets pour se reconnaitre entre eux. Mais chaque directeur d\u2019\u00e9cole est libre de l\u2019adapter selon les circonstances.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Selon notre Observatrice Kwayera, le combat n\u2019est pour autant pas termin\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Parfois, nous nous faisons emb\u00eater par l\u2019\u00e9quipe dirigeante. Tous les mercredis, j\u2019am\u00e8ne un sac rempli de foulards africains pour les jeunes filles qui n\u2019auraient pas pu prendre le leur. Je mets en place comme un petit atelier dans les toilettes pour les nouer aux jeunes filles qui le souhaitent. La semaine derni\u00e8re, une surveillante s\u2019est rendue compte de \u00e7a, et a essay\u00e9 de faire pression sur moi pour que j\u2019arr\u00eate.\u00a0Malgr\u00e9 tout \u00e7a, nous poursuivons notre mouvement. Nous sommes entre 30 et 40 participantes chaque semaine. M\u00eame des jeunes gar\u00e7ons de notre lyc\u00e9e ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 porter des foulards africains, et des amis d\u2019autres lyc\u00e9es m\u2019envoient des messages pour me dire qu\u2019ils ont aussi lanc\u00e9 le mouvement dans leur \u00e9tablissement.
\nCe n\u2019est pas juste une question de foulard : pour moi, c\u2019est une lutte pour toutes les femmes noires pour qu\u2019elles aient le droit de vivre leur culture.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
