Vendredi, le procureur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du pays a requis la peine de mort contre l’ancien pr\u00e9sident Joseph Kabila, jug\u00e9 par contumace pour trahison, crimes de guerre et soutien au groupe rebelle M23.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Kabila, au pouvoir de 2001 \u00e0 2019, a pris le pouvoir \u00e0 seulement 29 ans apr\u00e8s l’assassinat de son p\u00e8re, l’ancien pr\u00e9sident Laurent Kabila. Il a ensuite retard\u00e9 les \u00e9lections de deux ans apr\u00e8s la fin de son mandat, d\u00e9clenchant des troubles g\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9s.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le gouvernement l’accuse de soutenir les rebelles du M23, soutenus par le Rwanda, qui ont pris le contr\u00f4le de grandes villes de l’est du Congo ces derniers mois. Kabila est rentr\u00e9 d’exil volontaire en avril et est arriv\u00e9 \u00e0 Goma, une ville sous contr\u00f4le rebelle, ce qui soul\u00e8ve encore plus de questions sur ses liens avec l’insurrection. On ignore o\u00f9 il se trouve actuellement.<\/span><\/p>\n

Au tribunal, le g\u00e9n\u00e9ral Lucien Ren\u00e9 Likulia, repr\u00e9sentant l’accusation, a \u00e9galement requis une peine de 20 ans pour l’apologie pr\u00e9sum\u00e9e de crimes de guerre par Kabila et de 15 ans pour complot, sans toutefois fournir davantage de d\u00e9tails.<\/span><\/p>\n

L’immunit\u00e9 de s\u00e9nateur \u00e0 vie de Kabila a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9voqu\u00e9e en mai. Ses alli\u00e9s qualifient ce proc\u00e8s de politique. Ferdinand Kambere, ancien ministre sous Kabila, a qualifi\u00e9 cette d\u00e9cision de \u00ab honte pour la R\u00e9publique \u00bb. De son c\u00f4t\u00e9, l’analyste s\u00e9curitaire Henry-Pacifique Mayala a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que le dossier de l’accusation s’apparente davantage \u00e0 un \u00ab r\u00e8glement de comptes \u00bb qu’\u00e0 une v\u00e9ritable qu\u00eate de justice.<\/span><\/p>\n
