Les procureurs belges s’appr\u00eatent \u00e0 inculper Etienne Davignon (92 ans), un ancien diplomate accus\u00e9 d’\u00eatre impliqu\u00e9 dans le meurtre du r\u00e9volutionnaire congolais Patrice Lumumba.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Selon le parquet, l’accus\u00e9 aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 impliqu\u00e9 dans la \u00ab d\u00e9tention et le transfert ill\u00e9gaux \u00bb de l’ancien chef d’\u00c9tat congolais, qui aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 injustement emprisonn\u00e9 et soumis \u00e0 des \u00ab traitements humiliants et d\u00e9gradants \u00bb.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

L’agence de presse AFP a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que Davignon est le seul survivant des dix Belges soup\u00e7onn\u00e9s d’\u00eatre impliqu\u00e9s dans l’assassinat de Lumumba.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Il a occup\u00e9 le poste de vice-pr\u00e9sident de la Commission europ\u00e9enne tout au long des ann\u00e9es 1980 et \u00e9tait diplomate stagiaire au moment du meurtre.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Comme le rapporte la\u00a0BBC\u00a0, en 2011, les enfants de Lumumba ont d\u00e9pos\u00e9 une plainte en Belgique pour demander justice pour le meurtre de leur p\u00e8re \u00e0 l’\u00e2ge de 35 ans.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Une audience est pr\u00e9vue en janvier 2026 pour d\u00e9terminer s’il doit \u00eatre jug\u00e9.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

La nouvelle a \u00e9t\u00e9 accueillie favorablement par Juliana, la fille de Lumumba, qui a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 \u00e0 la RTBF : \u00ab Nous allons dans la bonne direction. Ce que nous recherchons, c’est avant tout la v\u00e9rit\u00e9. \u00bb<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

La vie de Patrice Lumumba<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

Patrice Lumumba, n\u00e9 en 1925 au Congo belge, \u00e9tait un farouche dirigeant anticolonial et le premier Premier ministre d’un Congo ind\u00e9pendant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Orateur puissant et visionnaire, il a dirig\u00e9 le Mouvement national congolais et a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le central dans l’obtention de l’ind\u00e9pendance du pays vis-\u00e0-vis de la Belgique le 30 juin 1960.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Son discours passionn\u00e9 du jour de l\u2019ind\u00e9pendance, dans lequel il d\u00e9non\u00e7ait la cruaut\u00e9 du colonialisme belge, a choqu\u00e9 les dirigeants occidentaux et l\u2019a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 comme une menace pour les int\u00e9r\u00eats \u00e9trangers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Quelques mois apr\u00e8s l\u2019ind\u00e9pendance, le Congo sombrait dans la crise.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

La province du Katanga, riche en min\u00e9raux, soutenue par les int\u00e9r\u00eats belges, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 sa s\u00e9cession.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Alors que Lumumba recherchait l’aide sovi\u00e9tique pour d\u00e9fendre l’unit\u00e9 du Congo, les puissances occidentales, dont les \u00c9tats-Unis et la Belgique, devinrent de plus en plus hostiles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Il fut bient\u00f4t renvers\u00e9 par un coup d\u2019\u00c9tat men\u00e9 par le colonel Joseph Mobutu, qui b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiait du soutien occidental.<\/p>\n

\n

Lumumba fut arr\u00eat\u00e9, humili\u00e9 et finalement livr\u00e9 aux s\u00e9cessionnistes katangais. Le 17 janvier 1961, il fut fusill\u00e9 aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de deux alli\u00e9s.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Son corps a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9membr\u00e9 et dissous dans de l’acide pour \u00e9viter qu’une tombe ne devienne un point de ralliement.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

La complicit\u00e9 \u00e9trang\u00e8re dans sa mort est aujourd’hui largement reconnue. Patrice Lumumba demeure un martyr de la lib\u00e9ration africaine. Sa vie et son assassinat brutal symbolisent les luttes acharn\u00e9es que l’Afrique a men\u00e9es pour se lib\u00e9rer des cha\u00eenes du colonialisme.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n
