Le nouveau patron de l\u2019OMS en Afrique est un Tanzanien. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lu au terme de la 74<\/b><\/strong>e<\/b><\/sup><\/strong> session du comit\u00e9 r\u00e9gional Afrique de l\u2019OMS\u00a0 \u00e0 Brazzaville.<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

Le Dr Faustine Engelbert Ndugulile chapeautera toutes les politiques sanitaires concernant l\u2019Afrique pour quelques ann\u00e9es. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 port\u00e9 \u00e0 la direction de l\u2019OMS-Afrique par les \u00c9tats Membres. Ces derniers ont vot\u00e9 \u00e0 huis clos lors de la 74e session du Comit\u00e9 r\u00e9gional de l’OMS pour l’Afrique. Le Dr Faustine Englebert Ndugulile a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9sign\u00e9 Directeur r\u00e9gional de l’Organisation mondiale de la Sant\u00e9 (OMS) pour la R\u00e9gion africaine pour un mandat de 5 ans. Il succ\u00e8de \u00e0 la Dre Matshidiso Moeti.<\/p>\n

Lors de leur huis-clos, les \u00c9tats Membres ont pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 le Dr Ndugulile aux Dr Boureima Hama Sambo, candidat du Niger, Dr Ibrahima Soc\u00e9 Fall du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal et le Dr Richard Mihigo propos\u00e9 par le Rwanda. Cependant, la d\u00e9signation du Dr Ndugulile sera soumise \u00e0 la 156e session du Conseil ex\u00e9cutif de l’OMS, qui se tiendra en f\u00e9vrier 2025 \u00e0 Gen\u00e8ve, en Suisse. Le nouveau Directeur r\u00e9gional prendra alors ses fonctions pour un mandat de cinq ans renouvelable une seule fois.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lu par les Etats-membres, le Dr Ndugulile a promis de travailler \u00e0 l\u2019am\u00e9lioration des conditions sanitaires en Afrique. \u00ab C’est pour moi un grand honneur et une grande humilit\u00e9 d’avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lu au poste de Directeur r\u00e9gional de l’OMS pour l’Afrique. Je remercie les \u00c9tats Membres pour la confiance qu’ils m’ont t\u00e9moign\u00e9e. Je promets de travailler avec vous et je crois qu’ensemble nous pouvons construire une Afrique plus saine \u00bb<\/i><\/em>, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le Dr Ndugulile.<\/p>\n

Dre Moeti, directrice sortante, a f\u00e9licit\u00e9 le Dr Ndugulile et s\u2019est dite confiante en ce qu\u2019il apportera un plus \u00e0 l\u2019organisation. \u00ab Je voudrais vous f\u00e9liciter pour votre \u00e9lection au poste de Directeur r\u00e9gional pour l’Afrique. C’est un r\u00f4le extr\u00eamement gratifiant. Malgr\u00e9 les nombreux d\u00e9fis, je sais que vous prendrez le relais et que vous continuerez \u00e0 acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer les progr\u00e8s d\u00e9j\u00e0 r\u00e9alis\u00e9s, en mettant la sant\u00e9 et le bien-\u00eatre des populations africaines au centre de vos pr\u00e9occupations \u00bb,<\/i><\/em> a indiqu\u00e9 la Dre Moeti.<\/p>\n

Pr\u00e9sent \u00e0 cette \u00e9lection, le patron de l\u2019OMS, le Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, a salu\u00e9 l\u2019esprit qui a pr\u00e9valu. \u00ab Le Dr Ndugulile a gagn\u00e9 la confiance des \u00c9tats Membres de la R\u00e9gion pour \u00eatre \u00e9lu prochain Directeur r\u00e9gional de l’OMS pour l’Afrique.
