Cheng Zhiping son p\u00e8re, est un homme de nationalit\u00e9 Chinoise, originaire de Wenzhou au sud-est de la Chine.<\/p>\n<p>Le p\u00e8re de Jean Ping avait \u00e9t\u00e9 recrut\u00e9 au Gabon comme travailleur dans une usine fran\u00e7aise (Peugeot Bicyclette) dans les ann\u00e9es 1920 et il est devenu bien apr\u00e8s exploitant forestier. Cheng Zhiping \u00e9tait par ailleurs pr\u00e9sident du parlement d\u00e9partemental. Jean c&rsquo;est le pr\u00e9nom, et Ping vient d&rsquo;une erreur des gens du pays qui prennent le pr\u00e9nom de son p\u00e8re comme nom. La m\u00e8re de Jean Ping, Germaine Anina, est une Gabonaise originaire de Kongo, un village situ\u00e9 \u00e0 quelques kilom\u00e8tres au sud d\u2019Ombou\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Jean Ping pour sa part est un diplomate de formation qui a fait ses \u00e9tudes en France (Sorbonne) et il a occup\u00e9 plusieurs postes minist\u00e9riels comme celui des relations ext\u00e9rieurs au Gabon sous le r\u00e8gne d&rsquo;Omar Bongo. Ping a \u00e9galement travaill\u00e9 comme pr\u00e9sident de la commission de l&rsquo;Union Africaine. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 battu aux derni\u00e8res \u00e9lections pr\u00e9sidentielles gabonaises, mais estime qu&rsquo;Ali Bongo lui a vol\u00e9 sa victoire.<\/p>\n<p>Un recours a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9pos\u00e9 \u00e0 la cour constitutionnelle pour demander le recomptage des voix, principalement dans la province d&rsquo;Ogou\u00e9.
