Manchester City<\/strong>\u00a0fusionnent et forment un nouveau super club.<\/p>\n\n\n\nLes plans auraient \u00e9t\u00e9 discut\u00e9s \u00e0 plusieurs reprises, la rivalit\u00e9 entre les deux clubs \u00e9tant consid\u00e9rablement plus amicale il y a 60 ans qu’elle ne l’est aujourd’hui.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
En 1964, City \u00e9tait une \u00e9quipe de deuxi\u00e8me division interm\u00e9diaire, tandis que United venait de terminer deuxi\u00e8me dans l’\u00e9lite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alors que le couple \u00e9tait de f\u00e9roces rivaux sur le terrain, en dehors de leurs r\u00e9unions, leur relation \u00e9tait toujours amicale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
City avait auparavant autoris\u00e9 les Red Devils \u00e0 utiliser leur stade de Maine Road pour les matchs \u00e0 domicile tandis qu’Old Trafford \u00e9tait reconstruit apr\u00e8s la Seconde Guerre mondiale ainsi que pour les matchs europ\u00e9ens avant que des projecteurs ne soient install\u00e9s au sol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Avec City consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme \u00e9tant au point le plus bas de leur histoire \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque, Johnson a eu l’id\u00e9e de fusionner avec United pour donner \u00e0 la ville de Manchester un super club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Il faut cependant noter que la fusion n’a jamais eu lieu apr\u00e8s que United lui ait accord\u00e9 peu d’attention. Les deux clubs s’y sont fortement oppos\u00e9s apr\u00e8s que les plans aient \u00e9t\u00e9 propos\u00e9s pour la premi\u00e8re fois par le vice-pr\u00e9sident de City, Frank Johnson, en 1964.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Au cours des ann\u00e9es 1920 et 1930, City \u00e9tait le premier club de Manchester et \u00e9tait tomb\u00e9 en disgr\u00e2ce en voyant ses rivaux remporter le succ\u00e8s sous Matt Busby alors qu’ils se vautraient dans le deuxi\u00e8me niveau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
En 2013, l’historien du football Gary James a discut\u00e9 des plans de fusion et a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 au\u00a0Manchester Evening News<\/strong>\u00a0que : \u00ab L’id\u00e9e a \u00e9t\u00e9 tu\u00e9e par les deux clubs avant m\u00eame qu’elle ne soit rendue publique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\u00ab\u00a0J’ai parl\u00e9 \u00e0 Eric Alexander dont le p\u00e8re Albert \u00e9tait pr\u00e9sident \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque, et il a dit que Frank Johnson, qui a eu l’id\u00e9e, avait souvent des id\u00e9es folles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00ab Un autre de ses plans \u00e9tait de r\u00e9gionaliser toute la ligue entre le nord et le sud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00ab\u00a0Mais City \u00e9tait au plus bas de son histoire \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque. En termes de classement en championnat, ce n’\u00e9tait pas aussi mauvais qu’en 1998-99, mais en termes de moral g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, d’ambiance et de soutien, c’\u00e9tait de loin le point le plus bas de l’histoire du club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00ab \u00c0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 90, nous avions encore plus de 30 000 matchs, ce qui signifiait que le club avait toujours une grande visibilit\u00e9. En 1964-65, nous \u00e9tions en deuxi\u00e8me division, le soutien \u00e9tait tomb\u00e9 \u00e0 moins de 15 000, et l’int\u00e9r\u00eat g\u00e9n\u00e9ral pour le club avait \u00e9galement chut\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00ab J’ai toujours cru aux ann\u00e9es 90 que City reviendrait, \u00e0 cause de la force du soutien, mais \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque, dans les ann\u00e9es 60, beaucoup de gens ne ressentaient pas \u00e7a.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00ab \u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, de nombreux clubs de la ‘ville’ comme Bolton, Burnley et Blackpool, qui avaient tous \u00e9t\u00e9 des grandes puissances, ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 lutter, et des clubs comme Accrington Stanley et Bradford Park Avenue \u00e9taient en train de mourir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00ab\u00a0Il y avait le sentiment que cela pouvait arriver \u00e0 n’importe quel club. En fait, tout ce dont il avait besoin \u00e0 City \u00e9tait un plan et une vision, et de faire venir le bon manager.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n
En fin de compte, c’est ce qui s’est pass\u00e9 lorsque Joe Mercer a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 patron de City en 1965 et les a imm\u00e9diatement ramen\u00e9s en premi\u00e8re division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00c0 sa quatri\u00e8me ann\u00e9e \u00e0 la t\u00eate, City \u00e9tait champion d’Angleterre pour la deuxi\u00e8me fois de son histoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ils allaient \u00e9galement remporter la FA Cup, la Coupe de la Ligue et la Coupe des vainqueurs de coupe europ\u00e9enne sous la direction de Mercer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
