Mercredi, le tribunal des sessions suppl\u00e9mentaires de Kollam au Kerala, en Inde, a condamn\u00e9 Sooraj S Kumar \u00e0 une double peine d’emprisonnement \u00e0 perp\u00e9tuit\u00e9 pour avoir tu\u00e9 sa femme \u00e0 l’aide d’un cobra.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sooraj avait tu\u00e9 sa femme de 25 ans, Uthra, le 7 mai 2020, en laissant un cobra la mordre dans son sommeil. \u00a0Le crime est devenu largement connu sous le nom de \u00ab\u00a0l’affaire du meurtre d’Uthra\u00a0\u00bb et a attir\u00e9 l’attention en Inde et \u00e0 l’international.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans une affaire qualifi\u00e9e par l’accusation de \u00ab\u00a0rare des rares\u00a0\u00bb, en Inde, l\u2019accus\u00e9 a \u00e9t\u00e9 condamn\u00e9 \u00e0 des peines d’emprisonnement \u00e0 perp\u00e9tuit\u00e9 pour les chefs d’inculpation des articles 302 (meurtre) et 307 (tentative de meurtre) ainsi qu’\u00e0 10 ans d’emprisonnement de rigueur en vertu de l’article 328 (causant des pr\u00e9judices en utilisant\u00a0\u00a0du poison) et sept ans d’emprisonnement en vertu de l’article 201 (causant la disparition de preuves) de l’IPC ainsi qu’une amende de Rs 5 lakh.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’officier enqu\u00eateur et ancien SP Harishankar de Kollam Rural a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 aux journalistes qu’il \u00e9tait satisfait du verdict.\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Le quantum de la peine est d\u00e9cid\u00e9 par la discr\u00e9tion judiciaire et a beaucoup de facteurs \u00e0 garder \u00e0 l’esprit.\u00a0Le tribunal a d\u00e9j\u00e0 d\u00e9clar\u00e9 l’accus\u00e9 coupable des quatre chefs d’accusation retenus par les enqu\u00eateurs et le parquet.\u00a0Nos efforts s’arr\u00eatent l\u00e0.\u00a0Nous ne pouvons pas commenter le montant de la peine \u00bb<\/em>, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La m\u00e8re de la victime, Manimeghalai, qui a suivi le d\u00e9roulement du proc\u00e8s depuis son domicile \u00e0 Anchal dans le district de Kollam, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu’elle n’\u00e9tait pas satisfaite du verdict car elle s’attendait \u00e0 ce que le tribunal inflige la peine de mort \u00e0 Sooraj.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCe sont les d\u00e9fauts du syst\u00e8me judiciaire car il y a des failles. Les gens s’en tirent en utilisant ces failles. Si la punition extr\u00eame avait \u00e9t\u00e9 inflig\u00e9e, cela aurait dissuad\u00e9 les autres de s’abstenir de commettre des crimes. Nous irons en appel \u00bb<\/em>, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 la m\u00e8re sur ce qu’il s’est pass\u00e9 en Inde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’affaire remonte au 7 mai 2020, lorsque Uthra, m\u00e8re d’un enfant de 1 an, a \u00e9t\u00e9 retrouv\u00e9e morte des suites d’une morsure de serpent \u00e0 son domicile d’Anchal par sa m\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La m\u00e8re de la victime a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que sa fille et Suraj \u00e9taient all\u00e9s dans leur chambre apr\u00e8s le d\u00eener.\u00a0Ce matin de mai, Suraj, qui \u00e9tait un l\u00e8ve-tard, s’est r\u00e9veill\u00e9 t\u00f4t et est sorti.\u00a0Quand Uthara ne s’est pas r\u00e9veill\u00e9e, sa m\u00e8re est all\u00e9e dans sa chambre et a trouv\u00e9 Uthara allong\u00e9e inconsciente.\u00a0Le serpent qui \u00e9tait toujours dans la pi\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 tu\u00e9 par les parents d’Uthara \u00e0 leur retour de l’h\u00f4pital apr\u00e8s que leur fille a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9clar\u00e9e morte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bien qu’il ait \u00e9t\u00e9 initialement rejet\u00e9 comme une morsure de serpent par la police locale, le fait qu’Uthra ait \u00e9t\u00e9 mordue plus t\u00f4t par une vip\u00e8re le 2 mars 2020 au domicile de sa belle-famille, qui l’a oblig\u00e9e \u00e0 \u00eatre hospitalis\u00e9e, et une plainte pour crime  dans sa mort par ses parents a forc\u00e9 les hauts grad\u00e9s de la police \u00e0 lancer une enqu\u00eate approfondie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apr\u00e8s une enqu\u00eate approfondie men\u00e9e par Kollam Rural SP Harishanker, les agents ont conclu que Sooraj, un employ\u00e9 d’une institution financi\u00e8re priv\u00e9e, avait minutieusement complot\u00e9 le meurtre de sa femme Uthra en for\u00e7ant un serpent \u00e0 la mordre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le 24 mai, la police a arr\u00eat\u00e9 Suraj et son associ\u00e9 Suresh, un attrapeur de serpents professionnel pour avoir foment\u00e9 un complot en vue d’utiliser un serpent pour la tuer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La police a affirm\u00e9 que Sooraj avait achet\u00e9 \u00e0 la fois la vip\u00e8re et le cobra au ma\u00eetre-serpent avec l’intention de tuer sa femme et de faire passer sa mort pour une morsure de serpent naturelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bien que la tentative de la faire mordre par la vip\u00e8re en mars 2020 ait \u00e9chou\u00e9 car elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 hospitalis\u00e9e \u00e0 temps, il a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 r\u00e9p\u00e9ter l’acte sournois avec le cobra deux mois plus tard.  Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 sous traitement pendant plus de 50 jours dans un h\u00f4pital apr\u00e8s la premi\u00e8re morsure de serpent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selon la version de la police, le couple avait une relation tendue et les parents d’Uthra ont affirm\u00e9 qu’elle \u00e9tait r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement harcel\u00e9e par sa belle-famille \u00e0 cause de la dot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
