Elle consiste pour un homme qui veut prendre une femme pour \u00e9pouse, \u00e0 verser \u00e0 la famille de sa future femme de l\u2019argent, des denr\u00e9es alimentaires, des objets de valeur, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Mais au Cameroun, cette pratique traditionnelle a tendance \u00e0 prendre une tournure d\u2019arnaque et m\u00eame d\u2019escroquerie. Dans les r\u00e9gions du centre chez les Ewondo par exemple et du sud chez les Bulu, la dot est devenue un moyen pour ruiner le gendre, pour l\u2019asphyxier financi\u00e8rement.<\/p>\n<p>Pour justifier, ce co\u00fbt tr\u00e8s \u00e9lev\u00e9 de la dot, la famille de la future mari\u00e9e pense que c\u2019est normal pour un homme qui aime sa femme de d\u00e9penser autant pour la dot. Il doit le faire avec joie et sans h\u00e9sitation.<\/p>\n<p>Mais ce point de vue est mal per\u00e7u dans la famille de l\u2019homme. Pour celle-ci, c\u2019est un moyen d\u2019arnaque, c\u2019est de l\u2019escroquerie pur et simple. Une dot tr\u00e8s \u00e9lev\u00e9e est synonyme de mendicit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00eame si les avis sont partag\u00e9s, il reste que la femme n\u2019est pas un objet \u00e0 vendre. La famille de la femme doit \u00eatre raisonnable dans la demande de la dot en tenant compte des capacit\u00e9s financi\u00e8res du gendre et de ses projets financiers dans l\u2019avenir.
