Les commandos des forces sp\u00e9ciales am\u00e9ricaines ont men\u00e9 samedi 31 Octobre un raid avant l’aube pour secourir un citoyen am\u00e9ricain qui avait \u00e9t\u00e9 enlev\u00e9 la semaine derni\u00e8re \u00e0 son domicile dans le sud du Niger.<\/strong>

Des commandos de l\u2019\u00e9lite SEAL Team 6 de la Marine ont sauv\u00e9 l\u2019Am\u00e9ricain Philip Walton, 27 ans, apr\u00e8s avoir suivi les t\u00e9l\u00e9phones de ses assaillants dans une cachette dans le nord du Nigeria voisin, ont d\u00e9clar\u00e9 des responsables am\u00e9ricains.

\u00ab\u00a0Les forces arm\u00e9es ont men\u00e9 une op\u00e9ration de sauvetage d’otages aux premi\u00e8res heures du 31 octobre dans le nord du Nigeria pour r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer un citoyen am\u00e9ricain pris en otage par un groupe d’hommes arm\u00e9s \u00bb<\/em>, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 samedi Jonathan Hoffman, le principal porte-parole du Pentagone.

M. Hoffman, qui n’a pas identifi\u00e9 M. Walton par son nom, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu’il \u00ab\u00e9tait en s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et qu’il \u00e9tait maintenant sous la garde du D\u00e9partement d’\u00c9tat am\u00e9ricain\u00bb<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un autre responsable a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que M. Walton avait \u00e9t\u00e9 emmen\u00e9 sur une base a\u00e9rienne am\u00e9ricaine \u00e0 Niamey, la capitale du Niger, pour retrouver sa famille.

M. Hoffman a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu’aucun militaire am\u00e9ricain n’avait \u00e9t\u00e9 bless\u00e9 au cours de l’op\u00e9ration, qui n\u00e9cessitait l’approbation du pr\u00e9sident Trump. Plusieurs des ravisseurs ont \u00e9t\u00e9 tu\u00e9s lors du raid, ont d\u00e9clar\u00e9 des responsables am\u00e9ricains.

M. Walton, le fils de missionnaire, vit avec sa femme et sa jeune fille dans une ferme pr\u00e8s de Massalata, un petit village pr\u00e8s de la fronti\u00e8re avec le Nigeria. Des responsables am\u00e9ricains et nig\u00e9riens avaient d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que M. Walton avait \u00e9t\u00e9 arr\u00eat\u00e9 lundi dans son arri\u00e8re-cour devant des membres de sa famille apr\u00e8s que des assaillants lui avaient demand\u00e9 de l’argent. Il leur a offert 40 dollars et a ensuite \u00e9t\u00e9 emmen\u00e9 par des hommes arm\u00e9s \u00e0 moto, ont indiqu\u00e9 les responsables. Les ravisseurs ont exig\u00e9 pr\u00e8s d\u2019un million de dollars de ran\u00e7on pour la lib\u00e9ration de M. Walton.

Un responsable am\u00e9ricain a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que les assaillants \u00e9taient des criminels qui avaient l’intention de vendre M. Walton \u00e0 des groupes terroristes de la r\u00e9gion. L’op\u00e9ration a \u00e9t\u00e9 organis\u00e9e rapidement avec l’aide de responsables au Niger et au Nigeria, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le responsable.

Selon des responsables am\u00e9ricains, le sauvetage a commenc\u00e9 juste apr\u00e8s minuit, heure locale, t\u00f4t samedi, lorsqu’une trentaine de commandos de la marine ont parachut\u00e9 dans la r\u00e9gion \u00e9loign\u00e9e o\u00f9 les ravisseurs avaient emmen\u00e9 M. Walton. Les membres de l\u2019\u00e9quipe de secours ont parcouru environ cinq kilom\u00e8tres jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce qu\u2019ils tombent sur le petit campement des ravisseurs dans un bosquet de buissons et d\u2019arbres.

Au cours de la br\u00e8ve mais intense fusillade qui a suivi et avec des drones de surveillance bourdonnant au-dessus de leur t\u00eate, tous, sauf un, sur une demi-douzaine de ravisseurs ont \u00e9t\u00e9 tu\u00e9s. Un ravisseur s’est \u00e9chapp\u00e9 dans la nuit. M. Walton n’a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 bless\u00e9 lors de la fusillade et il s’est rendu dans une zone d’atterrissage de fortune, o\u00f9 un h\u00e9licopt\u00e8re am\u00e9ricain l’a emmen\u00e9 en s\u00e9curit\u00e9.

Plusieurs Occidentaux sont actuellement otages dans la r\u00e9gion. Parmi eux, le travailleur humanitaire am\u00e9ricain Jeffery Woodke, qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 enlev\u00e9 dans la ville d’Abalak, au centre du Nigeria, en octobre 2016 et qui aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 emmen\u00e9 au Mali voisin.

L’enl\u00e8vement de M. Walton n’\u00e9tait que le dernier spasme de violence dans la r\u00e9gion du Sahel en Afrique, qui a connu un torrent croissant d’attaques de la part des affili\u00e9s de l’\u00c9tat islamique et de Qa\u00efda, en particulier au Burkina Faso, au Mali et au Niger.

Six travailleurs humanitaires fran\u00e7ais et leur guide nig\u00e9rien ont \u00e9t\u00e9 tu\u00e9s par des extr\u00e9mistes islamiques en ao\u00fbt alors qu’ils visitaient un parc animalier pr\u00e8s de Niamey.
