Le joueur de 45 ans qui a pris sa retraite du rugby en 2011, enregistre 100 s\u00e9lections internationales pour le Pays de Galles. Il a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que le fait de cacher son statut VIH pendant des ann\u00e9es l’avait pouss\u00e9 \u00e0 envisager le suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abQuand j’ai d\u00e9couvert que je devrais vivre avec le virus VIH, ma premi\u00e8re pens\u00e9e a \u00e9t\u00e9 de me dire que j’allais mourir, a affirm\u00e9 Thomas, \u00e2g\u00e9 de 45 ans, dans un documentaire qui sera diffus\u00e9 mercredi.\u00a0Je ne bl\u00e2me pas les gens de n’\u00eatre pas au courant de la situation. Le probl\u00e8me, c’est que dans les sc\u00e9narios admis dans les ann\u00e9es 1980, les gens n’en parlaient pas parce qu’ils ne disposaient pas d’autres informations\u00bb\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\u00abJ\u2019avais peur que les gens me jugent, me traitent comme si j\u2019avais la l\u00e8pre \u00e0 cause du manque de connaissances (autour de cette maladie, ndlr)\u00bb, dit-il, ajoutant qu\u2019apr\u00e8s avoir appris la terrible nouvelle, il est pass\u00e9 une \u00abp\u00e9riode tr\u00e8s sombre\u00bb. \u00abJ\u2019avais des id\u00e9es suicidaires, comme sauter d\u2019une falaise. Pour moi, avoir envie de mourir \u00e9tait naturel et je me disais que \u00e7a serait plus simple comme \u00e7a, mais vous devez vous confronter aux choses\u00bb, confie-t-il.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab\u00a0Pour moi, vouloir mourir \u00e9tait une pens\u00e9e naturelle et semblait \u00eatre la solution la plus facile, mais vous devez faire face aux choses. Et avoir un syst\u00e8me de soutien solide et la force personnelle et l’exp\u00e9rience de surmonter ces \u00e9motions m’a permis de le traverser\u00a0\u00bb.

Parlant de sa r\u00e9action \u00e0 l\u2019annonce de son statut s\u00e9rologique, l\u2019ancien capitaine des Lions irlandais et britanniques a d\u00e9clar\u00e9: \u00abQuand elle a prononc\u00e9 ces paroles, j\u2019ai rompu. J’\u00e9tais dans un tel \u00e9tat. J’ai tout de suite pens\u00e9 que j’allais mourir. Je me sentais comme un train express me frappait \u00e0 300 km\/h. Je ne m’y attendais pas du tout. Expliquant sa d\u00e9cision de raconter son histoire devant la cam\u00e9ra, il a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que c\u2019est \u00abpour aider les autres et faire la diff\u00e9rence\u00bb. \u00abBeaucoup de gens qui ont le VIH vivent dans la peur et la honte et je refuse d\u2019\u00eatre l\u2019une d\u2019entre elles maintenant. Nous devons briser ce tabou pour de bon\u00bb. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abJe le fais parce que, je veux me rappeler \u00e0 quoi \u00e7a ressemble de vivre. Je veux me rappeler ce que c’est que de se sentir libre. Et en faisant cela, je veux donner \u00e0 tant d’autres personnes qui se trouvent exactement dans la m\u00eame position que moi – et probablement dix fois pire – la possibilit\u00e9 de se sentir \u00e0 nouveau libres. Et pour faire cela, je dois m’\u00e9duquer moi-m\u00eame. Je dois \u00eatre fort. \u00c0 la fin, je dois \u00eatre une personne compl\u00e8tement diff\u00e9rente de celle que je suis maintenant.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab Je pense que ce que je veux apprendre, c’est que j’ai le VIH – et c’est bon. C’est ce que je veux apprendre. Plus que tout. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n
