Le roi Mswati III a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que le pays porte d\u00e9sormais le nom de Royaume d’eSwatini, pour \u00e9viter que les \u00e9trangers ne le confondent avec la Suisse.<\/p>\n

Le dernier monarque absolu d’Afrique a fait l’annonce lors des c\u00e9l\u00e9brations marquant le 50e<\/sup> anniversaire de l’ind\u00e9pendance du pays, une ancienne colonie britannique.<\/p>\n

Qu\u2019est-ce que cela implique de changer le nom d’un pays\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Le roi avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 utilis\u00e9 le nouveau nom lors d\u2019une allocution \u00e0 l’ONU en 2017 et \u00e0 l’ouverture de la l\u00e9gislature en 2014.<\/p>\n

Le processus de changement de nom d’un pays n’est pas aussi compliqu\u00e9 que lorsque le pays devient ind\u00e9pendant, ce qui entra\u00eene des d\u00e9cisions concernant le drapeau et les fronti\u00e8res nationales.<\/p>\n

Mais il reste encore beaucoup de probl\u00e8mes \u00e0 prendre en consid\u00e9ration.<\/p>\n

O\u00f9 est utilis\u00e9 le nom d’un pays\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prenez, par exemple, la constitution du pays, o\u00f9 le nom Swaziland appara\u00eet plus de 200 fois.<\/p>\n

La compagnie a\u00e9rienne du pays est appel\u00e9e Swaziland Airlink, tandis que toutes les pi\u00e8ces et tous les billets de banque du pays portent le nom de la Banque centrale du Swaziland.<\/p>\n

Et que dire des institutions officielles\u00a0: le site Internet du gouvernement n’a pas encore \u00e9t\u00e9 arrim\u00e9 au nouveau nom, et l’arm\u00e9e du pays et les forces de police sont toujours nomm\u00e9es d\u2019apr\u00e8s l’ancien titre.<\/p>\n

Le pays devra \u00e9galement enregistrer son nouveau nom aupr\u00e8s des organismes internationaux tels que l’ONU et le Commonwealth, dont il fait partie.<\/p>\n

Sur un plan plus pratique, le domaine Internet et les plaques d’immatriculation, tous utilisant des lettres du nom Swaziland, doivent \u00e9galement \u00eatre modifi\u00e9s, tout comme les uniformes utilis\u00e9s par les sportifs swazis dans les comp\u00e9titions internationales, qui portaient jusqu’\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent les lettres SWZ ou le nom Swaziland.<\/p>\n

Cependant, l’adoption d’un nouveau domaine Internet n’est pas toujours chose ais\u00e9e, comme l’a d\u00e9couvert le Sud Soudan peu avant l’ind\u00e9pendance lorsque le pays a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de prendre l’adresse .ss<\/strong>, ne r\u00e9alisant pas le lien avec l’organisation paramilitaire nazie Schutzstaffel, plus connue comme la SS.<\/p>\n

Les panneaux de circulation aux fronti\u00e8res et les timbres-poste du pays peuvent \u00e9galement \u00eatre affect\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

Qu’est-ce qui n’aura pas besoin de changer?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Heureusement, le nom Swaziland n’appara\u00eet pas du tout dans l’hymne national du pays.<\/p>\n

Les passeports dans le pays n’auront peut-\u00eatre pas besoin d’\u00eatre chang\u00e9s imm\u00e9diatement. En plus de porter le nom du Swaziland en anglais et en fran\u00e7ais, les documents de voyage actuels affichent le nouveau nom eSwatini (bien que dans une police beaucoup plus petite).<\/p>\n

D’autres pays d’Afrique australe ont chang\u00e9 de nom apr\u00e8s l’ind\u00e9pendance, le Bechuanaland devenant le Botswana, la Rhod\u00e9sie devenant le Zimbabwe et le Nyasaland devenant le Malawi.<\/p>\n

Cependant, les r\u00e9actions \u00e0 la d\u00e9cision de changer le nom Swaziland en eSwatini sont mitig\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Alors que certains sont heureux de s’\u00e9loigner du nom Swaziland, un m\u00e9lange de swazi et d’anglais, d’autres pensent que ce changement n\u2019est d\u2019aucune importance face aux probl\u00e8mes plus urgents du pays, notamment la pauvret\u00e9 et les taux de VIH les plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s au monde.<\/p>\n
