The former world’s richest man, Bill Gates, expressed on Wednesday his youngest daughter Phoebe’s excitement about her visit to Nigeria and the possibility of meeting Afrobeat stars Burna Boy and Rema.
Delivering his opening speech at an event in Lagos state on June 21st, Gates recalled his daughter’s anticipation of traveling to Nigeria and meeting some of the country’s musical stars. Speaking, Gates said:
“When my daughter Phoebe found out I was heading to Nigeria, she said, ‘You’re so lucky because you might get to see Burna Boy and Rema,’ so I had to look them up… since I’m so in the know. But I do remember, last time I was here, I got to see Davido and Wizkid perform. Of course, being in Nigeria, I can’t help but mention the amazing creativity happening here. Nigerian Afrobeats are popular everywhere
Gates added that he had to look up Burna Boy and Rema “because I’m so in the know,” which evoked laughter among the audience of young students and innovators.
“But I also remember, the last time I was here, I got to see Davido and Wizkid perform and I was quite impressed with that. So, my kids think I’ve come to a very hip place,” he stated.
